SCHOOL TOURS

The Sandy Spring Slave Museum offers student educational tours and optional bonus tours with hands-on activities designed to help students learn more African American history, travel through the African Diaspora, slavery, the building of America, Civil Rights and the historic kinship communities of Montgomery County, MD.

​

 School tours are offered to grades K-12, Monday through Saturday.

All guided tours are approximately 2 hours.

If your group is interested in a specialized tour with hands-on arts and craft activities, please contact the museum at contact.sssm@gmail.com

Price for educational tours :

$5.00 for students

$10.00 for teachers and staff

When may I make an appointment?

Send us an e-mail with a few suggested dates/times. We will then attempt to secure a volunteer to open the space up for you.

​

How far ahead should I book a tour?

Please make an appointment well in advance (at least 2 weeks ahead of time) to avoid disappointment. That said, do contact us and we will try to accommodate you.

How may I pay the admission fee?

We accept cash and checks made payable to "SSSM" at the time of the visit. We do not accept credit cards at this time..

​

Are you open National Holidays?

We are closed National Holidays.

​

Is your facility available for private events?

Yes. Our culturally-significant space has served as a wonderful venue for receptions, small weddings, memorial services, family reunions, lectures and book signings.

​

Are you open on weekends for self-guided viewing?

We are generally open Saturday & Sunday afternoons from 2pm until 4pm for self-guided viewing. However, it is always good to confirm in advance.

​

How do I know if you're open during inclement weather?

We follow Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) for weather-related closings. You may also e-mail us OR check out our website to confirm availability.
